Who we are

The Thinking and Working Politically Community of Practice is a community of individuals and organisations.  Our secretariat is located at the University of Birmingham, in the United Kingdom.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact information

If you wish to subscribe to our email newsletter, we ask you to provide us with your email address, and optionally your name.   We will contact you using this information to keep you informed about activities of the community, send you announcements of new publications and other news, and invite you to participate in activities of the community.

If you wish to join one of the working groups, we will ask you for your name, email address, and the organisation you work for and your job title.  This information will be made available to other members of the working group, and we will use it to contact you about working group activities.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or text from other sources (for example, videos from YouTube and tweets from Twitter).  Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.  These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to help us understand how many people use the TWP CoP website and what they look at on the site.  Google may place a cookie on your computer to help record which pages you view.  We only use this information in aggregate and we do not connect your usage of the site with any personally identifying information.  Google may also use the information collected in accordance with its privacy policy, available at https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245.

Who we share your data with

Your contact information for the mailing list is held by MailChimp in accordance with their privacy policy which is available at https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.  If you join a working group, your information will be held by Basecamp in accordance with their privacy policy, which is available at https://basecamp.com/about/policies/privacy.

We do not share any personally identifying data with any other parties.  We do share aggregate statistics about the usage of the website and subscriptions to our mailing list with funders and project partners.

How long we retain your data

If you subscribe to our mailing list, we will store the information that you provided until either (a) you contact us to tell us that you no longer wish to subscribe, or (b) if email that we send to you is repeatedly returned to us as undeliverable, in which case we will delete your contact information from our records.

If you join a working group, we will retain your information until you contact us to tell us that you no longer wish to be a member of the working group, we remove you from the working group, the working group is dissolved, or we determine that you can no longer be contacted with the information you provided to us.

How to delete your data

You may ask us to delete your personal information from our records (unsubscribe from our mailing list) by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link that appears at the bottom of our email newsletter or by emailing us at info@twpcommunity.org.

If you are a member of a working group, you can remove yourself from the group using the ‘my profile’ link in Basecamp or emailing us at info@twpcommunity.org.

How we protect your data

Personal contact information for the mailing list is held by MailChimp in accordance with its security policy, available at https://mailchimp.com/about/security/, and personal information for working groups is held by Basecamp in accordance with its security policy, available at https://basecamp.com/about/policies/security.  Our team members use these services following standard security practices including strong passwords and two-factor authentication to protect your data.
